How to install MicroShades Decking?

When laying a deck, whether Cedar Decking, Microshades, or any other of our materials, the general advice is to nail the boards with the bark up (annual rings up) to reduce splitting. However, if a defect is visible in the wood, the best side should be facing up. Thicker boards should be fastened to thinner boards to maintain structural integrity. It is advisable to drill pilot holes for fasteners when screwing near the edge or end of a plank. This minimises splitting. If the wood has become wet from exposure to rain, the deck boards should be pressed together during construction. Some shrinkage can be expected during drying. If the wood is dry, the boards should have room for expansion in wet weather.
